Either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission could work with the V6, but V8 trucks were automatic only. For ’05, the V6 is a 245-hp 4.0-liter, replacing a 190-hp 3.4. It comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, which replaces a 5-speed; or a 5-speed automatic, which replaces a 4-speed. Dec 26, 2011  Hello everyone. Manual trans Tundra's I'm finding are extremely rare. I have several questions: Was the manual even available behind the 4.7 V8? Was the manual available in the 4 door crew cabs? So far I have found a few trucks with the 3.4L V6 and the 5speed. Looking ideally for a 4.0/4.7 truck 4x4 with the 6 speed manual. Thanks for your help. problem #1

Tundra 6-cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 32,000 miles
I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra, SR5 access cab, 6-cyl and a 6-speed manual transmission. In Feb 2007 the throwout bearing started to go bad at approx. 30,000 miles (vehicle was about 8 months old) and the dealer replaced the entire clutch under warranty. About a year later the throwout bearing went out again, with about 65,000 miles on the vehicle. The dealer again replaced the entire clutch under warranty and also replaced the bell housing, stating that the bell housing was defective and was the cause of the problem. Now the vehicle has about 82,000 miles on it, is 5 years old, and the throwout bearing is again making noises, indicating that the clutch is going out again. This is not normal for a clutch to wear out 3 times in 5 years. I do mostly highway driving on flat roads and do not tow anything. The truck is now out of warranty and the clutch replacement costs quite a bit. I strongly believe that something else is the cause of the clutch repeatedly going out. Not many Tundra with this transmission ever came out and I believe that there is some kind of parts or design flaw that is causing this problem.
