The second-generation Toyota Prius appeared in 2003 and was a complete departure form the previous four-door sedan, because it sported futuristic hatchback styling. It had a much more efficient hybrid powertrain than its predecessor, to the extent that it was classified as a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV). Sales were quite slow until Toyota cut the car’s price. In 2009 the car was heavily revised to become even more efficient, and new bioplastics were used in the car’s construction.
